Maria Clara Salgado, 39, one of the daughters of former volleyball player Isabel Salgado, spoke about the first month without her mother this Thursday (15). Isabel died on November 16, aged 62, suffering from acute adult respiratory syndrome (ARDS), a rare condition.
In a text published on her Instagram profile, the athlete commented on how much she misses her mother and how her son, Joaquim, 6, has reacted to the situation. “Joaquim told me, mother, that life without grandma is much less fun. Mourning is a bitch. He already knows that so young.”
She went on to say that despite missing her, she finds strength in the “love we live”. “It pushes me in such a way that in the midst of this crying, deep down, my soul calms down and smiles”, she completed in the publication, which already exceeds 1,800 likes.
“For you, for me and for him, I remember your joy and urgency to live, your courage and everything I saw you do, full body, always. As a friend said, you really discovered the formula of life. And I like to think that somehow, you left this formula for us”, he concluded.
Maria Isabel Barroso Salgado was born in Rio de Janeiro and made history in volleyball. She became the first Brazilian player to play in Europe, in 1980. She played in the Olympics in Moscow, in 1980, and Los Angeles, in 1984. In 2016, in Rio, she was one of the names that carried the Olympic torch.
After ending her career on the courts, she started playing beach volleyball, alongside Jackie Silva. Isabel is survived by four other children: Pedro Solberg, Carol Solberg Pilar and Alison – whom she adopted in 2015.
