Prince Harry said he “would like to have my father back, I would like to have my brother back” in an interview conducted ahead of the release of his autobiography “Spare”.
Harry also says that “they have shown absolutely no desire to reconcile”, but without making it clear who are the people he is referring to.
The prince made the comments during a conversation with Tom Bradby, from the British channel ITV, and also gave an interview to the American broadcaster CBS. Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the remarks.
Both interviews will air on January 8, two days before the release of the autobiography.
In the conversation with CBS News journalist Anderson Cooper, which the network describes as “explosive”, Prince Harry claims he has been “betrayed” by “leaks and stories planted against me and my wife”.
“The family motto is ‘never complain, never explain’, but that’s just a motto,” said Harry.
“They [a famÃlia real] they talk to a journalist, who receives the information on a platter and writes a report. In the end, they are said to have contacted Buckingham Palace for comment. [oficial]. But really, the whole story is based on comments coming from Buckingham Palace.”
“So when in the last six years we’re told ‘we can’t make a statement to protect you’ but it’s done to other family members [real]there comes a point where silence is a betrayal.”
Below is an excerpt from the CBS interview.
ITV said the interview will touch on Prince Harry’s personal relationships and “never-before-heard details” about the death of mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
Filmed in California, where Harry and Meghan live, ITV reported an excerpt in which the prince says: “I want a family, not an institution”.
“They think it’s better to keep us, somehow, as the villains,” he adds.
Prince Harry’s autobiography “Spare” is expected to detail his disagreements with his brother Prince William.
The publisher Penguin Random House calls the work “striking, full of insights, revelations, self-analysis and a hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over pain”.
The autobiography follows on from the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan”, in which Prince Harry said it was “terrifying” to have his brother “screaming and screaming” at him during a meeting to discuss the couple’s future in the royal family.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the allegations made on the programme.
The couple also addressed in the series why they decided to give up royal duties and move to the United States, criticizing the British press and the inner workings of the institution of the royal family.
