Tesla CEO Elon Musk says he donated about $1.95 billion (£1.6 billion) worth of stock to charity last year, without naming the recipient or recipients of the donation.

Also on Wednesday, Musk said 2023 would be a “good time” to find someone to succeed him at Twitter’s helm.

The document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission showed that the donation was made between August and December of last year.

This is not the first time that Musk has given Tesla shares to charity, having donated shares worth about 5.74 billion in 2021.

He also tweeted that year that he planned to donate $20 million to schools in Cameron County and $10 million to the city of Brownsville, Texas, USA for “downtown revitalization.”

“I guess probably towards the end of this year would be a good time to find someone else to run the company,” he said.

The multi-billionaire entrepreneur bought the social networking platform last year for $44 billion. He has since said the company was close to bankruptcy.

But he has been criticized by some Tesla investors for spending too much of his time focusing on trying to turn Twitter around.

In November, speaking at the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, Musk said he was working too hard juggling his responsibilities at Twitter, Tesla and his SpaceX rocket company.

“My workload has increased a lot recently,” Musk said. “I have a lot of work on my plate, that’s for sure,” he added.
