Paramount Pictures is set to adapt a classic thriller. The film studio has acquired the rights to adapt Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1959 psychological thriller Vertigo.

So far the Marvel movie star, Robert Downey Jr, is expected to be the actor to appear in the lead role. Downey Jr. is also set to produce the film with his wife Susan Downey and their production company Team Downey along with John Davis and John Fox through Davis Entertainment.

Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight is set to write the script, according to Variety.

The first “Vertigo” film stars James Stewart as John “Scotty” Ferguson, a San Francisco police detective who retires due to a crippling fear of heights caused by a severe case of vertigo. The plot follows Ferguson as he is hired to monitor the wife of an acquaintance and how vertigo limits his abilities.

The film was a huge hit at the time and the remake aims to recreate the classic thriller and mystery film and live up to Hitchcock’s film by bringing the story into modern times.
