On television since he was just 12 years old and featured in soap operas dedicated to children and youth, Kayky Brito marked the generation of the 2000s with different roles in his career. For this reason, the public has been rooting for her recovery after being run over in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, west of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of last Saturday (2).
Kayky began her career in a phenomenon: in the last season of the first version of the telenovela “Chiquititas”, in 2000, produced by the Argentine channel Telefe and shown by SBT. Interestingly, his start on TV was with his older sister, actress Sthefany Brito, who also pursued an artistic career.
After drawing attention to the competitor, Globo hired the duo of brothers. Sthefany stood out first, in “Um Anjo Caiu do Céu” (2001), while Kayky would have the first peak of her short career until then.
His first protagonist was in “O Beijo do Vampiro” (2002), as the little vampire Zeca, a boy who discovers he is the son of a powerful count, the vampire Bóris (Tarcísio Meira). He was very popular at 15th birthdays for young people in Brazil and became a childhood idol remembered to this day.
The soap opera also made him the champion of letters on Globo between 2002 and 2003. He received 2 thousand correspondences a day, surpassing even the protagonists of “Malhação” (1995-2022), who at the time were the champions.
After “O Beijo do Vampiro”, Kayky received a proposal from Walcyr Carrasco, who was then developing a soap opera for the six o’clock time slot after the successes of “O Cravo e a Rosa” (2000) and “A Padroeira” (2001). The conversation was strange: Walcyr wanted Kayky to play a boy who was raised as a girl in the 1920s, the period in which the serial was set.
The soap opera was “Chocolate com Pimenta” (2003), which has become a recent soap opera classic. Kayky made Bernadette, daughter of Jezebel (Elizabeth Savalla), the villain of the plot. The discovery of its true genre was a national matter: the scene, in the original exhibition, reached peaks of 41 audience points in Greater São Paulo, one of the largest in the serial.
After that, Bernadette became Bernardo. But Kayky’s life turned into a little hell. As a teenager in high school, aged 15, he suffered teasing and bullying from schoolmates and on the streets for appearing on TV dressed as a woman. “There were moments when I thought about giving up”, said the actor at the time in an interview with Sheet.
Soon after production, Kayky scored roles in other soap operas on Globo, such as “Começar de Novo” (2004), “Alma Gêmea” (2005), “Cobras e Lagartos” (2006), “Sete Pecados” (2007), ” Três Irmãs” (2008) and “Passione” (2010), but without much shine.
He stayed away from the plots for a while, until he was invited to return in “Alto Astral” (2015). Between 2012 and 2017, he lived in the United States and graduated in cinema, until he returned to Brazil soon after.
In recent years, he has made biblical soap operas for Record, such as “O Rico e Lázaro” (2017) and “Genesis” (2021), the latter being his most recent role on television. At Globo, the most recent work was “Verão 90” (2019).
Kayky was transferred to the Copa D’or hospital after being treated at Miguel Couto. According to the latest medical bulletin from the hospital, Kayky is in a serious but stable condition and is breathing with the help of machines. He is still in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) at the site.
