“Oedipus the Tyrant” by Sophocles in the Old Olive Oil Mill of Elefsina

One of the leading ancient tragedies, “Oedipus the Tyrant” by Sophocles was presented at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus on August 25 and 26, as part of the Epidaurus Festival, directed by Simos Kakalas with Yannis Stankoglou in the title role and Jocasta the Marilita Lampropoulou. In this performance, seen as a ritual of purification, a group of masked elders form the dance of writhing, mourning and agony. Through this dance the tragic faces of Oedipus, Jocasta, Teiresias and Creon are revealed.
