The internationally recognized painter Stelios Faitakis, passed away at the age of 47. Stelios Faitakis was born in 1976 in Athens, where he lived. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts (2003) with teacher Rena Papaspyrou in the 3rd painting workshop. He attended Hagiography courses, as an optional course, with teacher Mr. Sozos Giannoudis.

They have works for him presented in numerous individual and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, among others: 1st Riga Biennale “RIBOCA” (2018), “Antidoron”, exhibition of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), part of Documenta 14, Kassel (2017) , “Right to the Future”, Museum of 20th and 21st Century Art, Saint Petersburg (2017), “Templon”, Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki (2017), “Common Holy Places”, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MOMus), Thessaloniki (2017) ), Lasco Project #6, commissioned permanent mural on the Palais de Tokyo building, Paris (2016), “Shit and Die”, Palazzo Cavour, Turin (2014), 1st Kyiv Biennale (2012), mural on the facade of the Danish booth at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011), “Art in the Street”, MoCa, Los Angeles (2011) and 1st Athens Biennale “Destroy Athens” (2007).

The last solo exhibition of Stelios Faitakis in Athens took place in 2022 at Allouche Benias, entitled “Triumph of Logic”.

In 2016, he spoke to the New York Times for his extremely pioneering decision to connect street art with Byzantine icons. “I like the idea of ​​speaking an artistic language that has deep roots; locals understand it and visitors find it very interesting. And at the end of the day it’s still a form of religious art and I personally use it for what it is no matter what the subject is; whether it’s something simple or even shallow the gold background always reminds the viewer that there is another , a higher plane of existence despite the distance we may have from it due to our daily struggle for survival. This is one of the key elements that form the core of my work“, he had said then.
