“If I had a choice, I’d probably like another one… I got my mother’s voice,” said the famous singer
Between film, television and discography, Cher has been part of the pop culture landscape for more than six decades.
And with no intention of giving up and retiring soon, the 77-year-old is back in the limelight, being impressive – as always – on the cover of the new edition of “Paper” magazine.
Her return to the public is part of the promotion of her first holiday-themed studio album, titled “Christmas”which was released just last week.
Cher reveals for the first time that she’s not a fan of her voice in a new interview. However, many of her millions of fans around the world would – most likely – disagree with this particular placement.
Cher, aka Cherilyn Sarkisian, credits her inspiration to return to the studio to her partner, 37 Alexander Edwards. And it all started with him bringing her some songs to listen to because she doesn’t turn on the radio anymore.
“When we were first together, he said, “Why don’t you record?”. And I said to him, “I don’t know.” So he brought me this song called “Fairness” and it touched me so much. And then he brought me a few more and I thought, I can go back into the studio with them“, said the “Believe” singer.
Cher continued: “And then, suddenly, the Christmas album came out again. I mean, it’s been coming my whole life and I’ve always been like, “Yeah, no,” and somehow this was different. When I started, I was totally into it».

While she has released 31 albums, dating back to 1965, she admitted she didn’t like them all. “I’ve made so many albums and some of the ones I thought were so good didn’t become hits. And there were other things that I wasn’t so excited about. This is the unpredictability of the music industry“, he said characteristically.
Noting that her career has been a series of ups and downs in terms of success, she went on to reveal that she didn’t always like the sound of her voice.
“I’m not a Cher fan, but I love what I do“, he admitted. Cher went on to elaborate on what she doesn’t like about herself as a performer. “I just never liked my voice so much“, he said, before adding: “If I had the choice, I’d probably want another one. I got my mother’s voice».
Cher then broke down the rhythm of her voice when she’s behind the mic and belting out a track. “I don’t know, it’s weird. It doesn’t sound like a man, it doesn’t sound like a woman. I’m somewhere more in between“, explained. “I have this weird style».
When asked how she managed to have such a long and successful career as both a singer and an actress, Cher said: “I’m just not giving up». Cher’s new 13-song Christmas album was released on October 20. It features guest appearances from Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder, Darlene Love and Tyga.
During her career, Cher has sold more than 100 million records and another 40 million as a member of the famous duo Sonny & Cher, making her one of the most successful music artists of all time. As an actor, he received two Academy Award nominations, including winning Best Actor for Moonstruck (1988).
