Six stretches from yoga to get rid of the headache

by

Sometimes taking a break from the constant screens during the day, adding more water to your daily routine or even a short walk in the fresh air, may help relieve your headache.

However, the above tactics do not always alleviate a strong pain that may be due to other causes, such as the wrong posture during your work.

Hannah Barrett, a yoga teacher and author of Yoga Happy, believes that many types of headaches are caused by tension and stress, and believes that yoga “can help you release tension and calm your mind.”

Obviously, as beneficial as it is, yoga is not a panacea. If you live with migraines, you know that many times even medication can not help you, let alone stretching. If you tend to have frequent headaches that last for days and your migraines are getting worse, it is best to talk to your doctor.

Otherwise, Barrett has come up with a simple but effective breathing technique and a range of stretches that may make you feel better. With the help of the images we discovered in Stylist, an easy test will convince you to try.

Seated alternate breathing through the nose
This breathing exercise helps to calm the nervous system, while at the same time it balances and calms your mind.

1. In a comfortable position, place the index finger and middle finger of your right hand on your palm and exhale.

2. Bring your right thumb to your face and close your right nostril. Take a long, slow breath from your left nostril.

3. Close the left nostril with the middle one and then release the right nostril and exhale slowly.

4. Take a long, slow breath through your right nostril.

5. Close the right nostril with the thumb, release the left nostril and exhale slowly.

6. Repeat 8-10 times, try to calm your breathing by emphasizing your slow inhalations and exhalations.

Side stretch

Stretches the neck, shoulders, body and helps calm the mind.

1. Sit down and inhale slowly, raising your left hand to the sky along your torso to the side.

2. As you exhale, lean to the right, keeping your torso on the floor.

3. Inhale to return to your starting position and then start with the other side.

4. Repeat five times.

Neck stretch

It releases the tension of the neck and shoulders and helps to open the chest.

1. Sit down, gently rest your right fingertips on the ground next to your right hip.

Take a breath as you bring your left hand to the top of your head and as you exhale slowly bring your left ear to your left shoulder using your hand as a guide.

3. Take five breaths like this.

4. Repeat on the other side.

Shoulder movements

This releases tension from the shoulders, neck and back.

1. Inhale by shrugging towards the ears.

2. Exhale as you leave them behind and down.

3. Repeat five times.

Supported child posture

In this way it calms the mind and strengthens your body.

1. Kneel on a mat with your big toes together and your knees about hip-width apart.

2. Exhale and lay your torso between your thighs, keeping your spine taut.

3. Stretch your arms forward as you feel a stretch from the tail outwards, through the fingertips.

4. Alternatively, you can bring your knees close and your arms back and place your hands on the floor next to your torso with your palms facing up, releasing the front of your shoulders toward the floor.

Rest for five or more slow breaths, if needed.

6. To feel more helped, you can also use a pillow over your mat.

Feet on the wall

This calms your nervous system and mind.

1. Lie on a mat, bring your hips to the wall with your upper body on the floor and sit as close to the wall as possible.

2. Gently lift your legs straight up, leaning against the wall.

3. Place a pillow or blanket under your back to soothe any possible discomfort.

4. If you have time, stay that way for five minutes or more.
