The famous rapper kicked and punched his ex-partner in 2016
Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs admitted in a video apology that he punched and kicked his ex-partner in 2016 in a hotel hallway after CNN released footage of the attack.
Diddy said he was “truly sorry” and that his actions were “unwarranted.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions in this video. I felt disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now” says the American rapper and record producer in the video posted yesterday on Instagram and Facebook.
On Friday, CNN released footage of Diddy punching and kicking Cassie, an R&B singer who was his protégé and partner at the time. The video also shows the rapper pushing and dragging Cassie and throwing a vase in her direction.
Cassie, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura, sued the rapper in November for what she said were years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. The case ended in a plea deal, without an admission of liability, but resulted in an investigation by authorities and civil lawsuits filed in the following months against the rapper. A further federal human trafficking investigation led authorities to raid his Los Angeles and Miami mansions.
“It’s so hard to reflect on the darkest moments in your life, but sometimes you have to,” Diddy says in the video. And he adds: “I went and asked for professional help. I started treatment and detox. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I commit to being a better person every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I am really sorry”.
