“To Tasso Birsim I owe my television existence. It’s not just that he was the first-first-first person who said to me: “You’re mainly for a news report”, it’s not that my first test went to Minoas Kyriakous, when he was setting up the Antenna and it became the reason to change the whole my life, is that he introduced me to the secrets of the world of production, directing, editing, reporting.
He had suggested that I be by his side, a silent witness to what he does every day. Little did I know when I excitedly accepted that he never slept. He had a small leather bag and there he put the necessary things to survive, without sleep, as the needs of the producers were enormous.
Tasos had an unimaginable tenderness in teaching while in control he had a unique gift, even when everything seemed to be destroyed, not to “pass” the main presenter or the protagonist the ….chaos.
I was by his side in many channel launches as we bonded with a great friendship. Constant references to his children, Marousso and Stamos.
Taso and I did the first live show on ERT that went live from midnight and lasted until 2 in the morning. It was the first late night show to air on a channel.
We were disciplined because we had shown the Madonna erotica video clip at 2 in the morning. ( terrible things )
From him I learned all the background of the political life of the country and from him I learned that in order to survive on television, I had to work non-stop and be ready for how I would manage the moment in front of the camera, when nothing would be ready in the its time
As long as there are control rooms and big broadcasts, Tasos’ energy will be there .. I’m sure, because no matter how much he said he was tired, his natural space was control and editing ….
