Taís Araujo will face one of the biggest challenges since she was hired by Globo in 1997. The actress officially accepted the invitation from director Paulo Silvestrini at the beginning of this week and will be the protagonist of the remake of “Vale Tudo”, which the network is preparing as a major attraction to celebrate its 60th anniversary, in 2025.
The actress will play Raquel, who in the original version was played by Regina Duarte. In addition to Silvestrini, José Luiz Villamarim, director of television drama at Globo, worked hard to get Taís to accept the invitation.
Author of the soap opera, Manuela Dias has Taís as one of her trusted actresses and also approved her name for the reinterpretation of Gilberto Braga’s production. Both will repeat the partnership that already occurred in “Amor de Mãe” (2019-2021).
Officially, the actress will only be able to confirm that she will be the protagonist of “Vale Tudo” during the screening of “Mania de Você”, the next soap opera that premieres in September, replacing “Renascer”. Globo does not intend to release any names before then so as not to interfere with João Emanuel Carneiro’s return to prime time.
When saying yes to the role of Raquel, Taís thought especially about the layers of the character. People close to the actress, heard by the F5they said that she was reluctant to accept the invitation because of her family, who preferred that she not do the soap opera because they considered the role risky.
Taís is the second name confirmed in the cast of “Vale Tudo”. The first, as anticipated by F5 last Monday (24), it is Cauã Reymond. Taís and Cauã have in common the fact that they are both among the few permanent employees of Globo’s actor bank currently. Other roles should only be defined from August onwards.
In addition to Globo’s anniversary celebration, a marketing issue influenced the decision to remake “Vale Tudo”.
The original 1988 version has a quality considered below the standard adopted by the broadcaster. The images are considered dark, which made reruns on open TV impossible and deterred those interested in the foreign television market from purchasing the production.
With the new version, TV takes advantage of the story’s appeal in prime time and has a product considered interesting to be negotiated with its partners.
In its original version, “Vale Tudo” told the story of Raquel, who is abandoned by her husband and is forced to raise her daughter alone, the ambitious Maria de Fátima, played by Gloria Pires. Its ending was suspenseful thanks to the question that made Brazil stop: “Who killed Odete Roitmann?”
In addition to the original broadcast, the plot had three reruns: one on Globo in 1992 (when image quality standards were not as high as they were in the following decade) and two others on the Viva channel, in 2010 and 2018.
In 2022, Globo even considered a rerun of the plot on Vale a Pena Ver de Novo, in place of the rerun of “O Clone” (2001), but the plans were discarded.
