Kardashian wants to “make sure” Taylor’s legacy lives on
“I’ve always been fascinated by Elizabeth Taylor”says Kim Kardashian. The interview – for Harper’s Bazaar magazine – featured a photoshoot inspired by the star’s famous role in the 1963 film Cleopatra.

Taylor’s life – from her Oscars to her seven husbands – is featured in a new BBC documentary series, “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar.”
Kardashian, who has more than 360 million followers on Instagram, is an executive producer on the show and explains how the movie star inspired her. “There are so many young people that I want to remind or teach them who they are.”reports Kim. Taylor, born in 1932, has been in the limelight for most of her life. She moved from England to Beverly Hills, Los Angeles when she was seven years old and had her first film success with ‘National Velvet’ at the age of 12.
She then became the first actress to sign a $1 million contract for a single film, Cleopatra, and her romance with co-star Richard Burton caused a frenzy. “She was very open about her love life and obviously fell in love and fell in love again”says Kardashian, adding that “he loved love.”

Taylor’s eight marriages – she was married twice to Welsh actor Richard Burton – were highly publicized. And in the 1980s, the star would use the spotlight to campaign for AIDS patients.
“What really moved me is how she fought for people who didn’t have a voice and how passionate she was about it.”emphasizes Kardashian.
In 1985, Taylor helped found the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), a month before her close friend, Rock Hudson, died of an AIDS-related illness. She was instrumental in persuading US President Ronald Reagan to speak at a dinner for the organization and sold exclusive photos from her eighth wedding to set up the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation in 1991.
