Gigi Hadid opened the legendary show that first aired in 1995
Fans raved about her show “Victoria’s Secret” held in New York on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, after several years. In fact, the last one happened in 2018.
In the show we saw all the famous models, the “priestesses” of the catwalk, Alessandra Ambrosio, Tyra Banks and Adriana Lima, as well as the “idols” of the next generation Taylor Hill and Barbara Palvin. The show also saw Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, the first transgender model to represent the brand in 2019. And transgender model Alex Consani also walked the runway as the brand now follows a different policy.
Cher headlined the night alongside Blackpink Lisa and rising star Tyla, marking the show’s first female musical lineup.
However, there was a lot of backlash on social media about the show, with comments from users regarding it trying to meet modern social standards.
“Victoria’s Secret is back with the most boring show ever”one user said, while another added: “The Victoria’s Secret show seems so modern and boring now, I’m disappointed.”
Also, someone else wrote: “What happened to the special sets per show, the close ups of the looks, the chaos behind the scenes, let’s go back to our roots #VSFashionShow2024! The inclusion was fine, but I guess more needs to be done…”.
Lisa opened the show with a very sexy rendition of her hit ‘Rockstar’, entering the venue on a motorbike. Surrounded by female dancers, the singer showed off her abs in a black vinyl bra shaped like angel wings.
Gigi Hadid then opened the legendary show that first aired in 1995. Adriana Lima walked to the beat of Chappell Roan’s ‘Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl’. Victoria’s Secret favorite Candice Swanepoel also made her long-awaited return to the catwalk. The blonde beauty left little to the imagination wearing a red bra and thong underwear. Kate Moss’ 22-year-old daughter Lila made her show debut and wowed.
Alessandra Ambrosio also turned up the heat. After taking a break from modeling to focus on her battle with Lyme disease, Bella Hadid looked better than ever as she walked the runway in a stunning crimson ensemble.
In 2020, a bombshell story in the New York Times claimed that Victoria’s Secret owner Les Wexner was mocking the retail industry’s efforts to champion women with different body types.
The Times interviewed more than 30 executives, employees and models and reviewed court filings that found a toxic culture of sexual harassment. Wexner also allegedly berated employees about their weight.
