The great adventure she went through with her health, her marriage and the crises she overcame
We first met her in the series “The hour is good” and since then Eleni Karakasi belongs to the actors who work non-stop. Only during the period when her health problem passed did she have to slow down a bit. Then came “Wild Bees”, “Black Rose”, “The Pantheons” and this year “Grand Hotel”.
The beloved actress talks to Andreas Theodorou and the “So” that is circulating about everything.
-At the time of the presentation of the series, you jokingly mentioned that you were on the staircase…
“It’s true. It’s not taboo to say I’m in the climacteric. Nor do I consider it taboo to go for psychoanalysis, to go to the psychologist or the psychiatrist. When your arm hurts you go to the orthopedist, when your soul hurts you won’t you go to the right person to help you? And if the right guy tells you to take a pill, won’t you take it? So we must learn to love ourselves, because if you don’t love yourself, no one will. We must love and respect our personality.”
-Have you ever felt that you have a protection from God?
“I’ve never thought of it that way, but I’ve felt it. I’m not one to leave things to chance. I won’t say “I have a guardian angel who will find me a job, or who will make sure I don’t get sick.”
If I see that my work phone hasn’t rung, I’ll go ask myself. I will take it as far as my dignity allows and then leave it to chance. After the health adventure I had I take a lot more care of myself. Now I love me much more and take care of me.”

-What made you take even more care of yourself?
“After the gynecological surgery, I had a series of problems related to the psychosomatic part. I got fibromyalgia, meaning the brain was telling my body that the pain I’m feeling is much worse than it is. I did acupuncture, homeopathy, but what really helped me and I want people to know about it, is pain clinics.
They have been started in many public hospitals by anesthesiologists. It does not only concern cancer patients in the last stages, but also patients who have chronic pain that cannot be treated with painkillers and physical therapy. I was helped a lot.”
-We don’t know much about fibromyalgia and pain clinics…
“Fibromyalgia is something that a lot of women get mainly in menopause or when they’ve had a total hysterectomy, like me. It has to do with the changes that happen due to hormones. Chronic pain if someone doesn’t feel it, they can’t understand it, because it’s something you wake up and sleep with.
I couldn’t get out of bed, I was rolling on my side and moaning. I was getting out of the car and it was like I was an 80 year old woman, I couldn’t unfold. But the public pain clinics helped me a lot and I want to talk about them so that the world knows about them.”
-What is the secret that you and your husband Dimitris Tsinidelos are one of the most loved couples in showbiz?
“There is no secret, there is work and respect. We have had crises, but there is respect. At the moment of crisis we put it down and said why we are together, why we got married. Were we better apart or together? We fought it and stayed together.”
