Mônica Bergamo: Low vaccination rate in the North and Northeast lights up an alert at the Ministry of Health

The yellow light came on at the Ministry of Health with the low percentage of vaccination in some states in the North and Northeast. The folder should send teams to some of them to try to understand what is going on, and what solutions could be adopted to solve the problem.

While São Paulo, for example, has 76.7% of the population fully immunized, Amapá, last placed in the Brazilian ranking of vaccination, registers only 38.8% of people with the complete cycle.

Another four states have less than half of the population fully immunized: Roraima (39.6%), Pará (47.2%), Acre (45.7%) and Maranhão (48.6%).

Minister Marcelo Queiroga, from Health, spoke with health managers and heard them explain that the low percentage can be explained by problems when reporting data to the national system.

The Health Secretary of Maranhão, Carlos Lula, who chairs the Conass (National Council of Health Secretaries), explains that the flow of data is, indeed, part of the problem.

HAS A VACCINE

“There is no lack of vaccine,” he says. The problem would be that “vaccination sites have difficulties with the internet. The forms are manual. There is a great delay in the release of data”.

He calculates that, if the entry of information into the system were streamlined, the percentage of registration of vaccinees in these states would rise “something around 10 to 20% more doses”.
