Brazil registers more than 3,000 cases of Covid and reaches 22.2 million infections

Brazil recorded 173 deaths from Covid and 3,805 cases of the disease, this Thursday (16). With that, the country reached 617,521 lives lost and 22,203,136 people infected by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Some states remain with record instability issues due to the cyber attack against the Ministry of Health’s system last week.

Moving averages of deaths and cases remain falling. The average of deaths is now 145 per day, down 30% from the figure two weeks ago. The average number of infections is 3,944 per day, down 55%.

The average of deaths completed 13 days below 200.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Departments.

Data on vaccination against Covid-19 are among those affected, in several states, by the attack on the ministry’s website. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in 12 states and the Federal District.

Brazil registered 950,144 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Thursday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 147,776 first doses, 301,350 second doses. In addition, 536 booster doses and 500,482 booster doses were recorded.

There was a review of single doses in Ceará (-215) and in Minas Gerais (-46).

In all, 160,522,290 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —136,497,260 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of the Janssen vaccine against Covid, there are already 141,083,188 people with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine.​

Thus, the country already has 75.25% of the population with the 1st dose and 66.14% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values ​​are, respectively, 99.03% and 87.04%​​.

Even those who received two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths.
