Scientists are closely monitoring the deteriorating trend of the epidemiological situation recorded in the last three days in the country. Typically, 42% more covid-19 diagnoses were recorded today than the corresponding day of the previous week, said during the briefing on the course of the pandemic, the assistant professor of epidemiology and member of the committee of experts Gikas Majorkinis.
At the global level, 904,000 diagnoses were recorded yesterday, a number that has not been recorded since April 29, and “we are approaching to see one negative record of diagnoses being broken after another,” said Mr. Majorkinis. The first signs of an epidemic worsening are also occurring in Europe, as 18 of the 47 European countries have shown a worsening of the epidemiological situation, and 10 of them are deteriorating by more than 30%.
Course of the pandemic in Greece
The total number of new diagnoses in the country on average, said Mr. Majorkinis, showed an improvement for the fourth week. In particular, 8% fewer diagnoses were recorded in the last week, however in recent days there has been a deterioration. The number of deaths showed a decrease of 12%. There is still increased pressure on the health system, but with a clear tendency to decompress, the professor said.
The number of people in the Intensive Care Unit remains stable, with a slight decrease, the number of new admissions with Covid fell by 11%, while the ticket-discharge balance is approaching 1.
The course of the pandemic worldwide
To date, 277 million infections and more than 5.4 million deaths from Covid-19 have been reported worldwide. New diagnoses have increased by 11% in the last week and about 687,000 diagnoses per day have been recorded. The death rate decreased by 5% and about 6,700 deaths were recorded per day.
In Europe, the epidemic is showing a significant deterioration in the spread of the virus. More specifically, the rate of new diagnoses increased by 9%, while the rate of deaths decreased by 8%. 2.7 million diagnoses and 24,700 deaths were recorded in the last week.
