Brazil recorded 420 deaths from Covid and 64,591 cases of the disease, this Sunday (6). With this, the country reaches 632,289 deaths and 26,536,597 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Case and death data has been updated for 25 states. Amapá and Roraima did not register deaths in the last 24 hours.
Brazil recorded more than 1,000 deaths from Covid last Friday (4), with 1,074 lives lost. It was the highest value since August 17 of last year, when records showed 1,137 deaths. The record in a single day of cases occurred on Thursday (3), with 286,050 infections.
Moving averages of deaths and cases are rising. The moving average of deaths is 767 deaths per day – a variation of 162% in relation to the previous 14 days – and that of cases is 169,301 infections (an increase of 14%).
The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.
The country’s data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate figures related to the new coronavirus pandemic.
The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.
Covid-19 vaccination data, also collected by the consortium, were updated for 16 states.
Brazil registered 418,440 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 this Sunday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 55,695 first doses, 132,291 second doses. In addition, 331 single doses and 230,123 booster doses were recorded.
In all, 166,982,712 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 151,067,205 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. As for booster doses, 50,782,047 were applied.
Thus, the country already has 77.73% of the population with the 1st dose and 70.32% of Brazilians with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine, and 23.64% of the population with vaccine booster.
Even those who completed the primary vaccination schedule with two doses or a single dose or have already received booster vaccines should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.
The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
