São Paulo is the first state in the country to reach more than 70% of the population with complete vaccination against Covid-19.
This Wednesday morning (10), the state reached 70.96% of the population in this situation, which represents 32.8 million people who took two doses of the vaccine or the single dose immunizing agent. Data are from the State Health Department.
Considering only the population of São Paulo over 18 years of age, this rate rises to 90.11%.
“São Paulo has become a historical and world reference in vaccination. We are the state that vaccinates the most, and the capital of São Paulo is the city in the country that most vaccinates,” said Governor João Doria, in an interview on Wednesday.
In the country, the rate of fully immunized people is 56.52%, more than 120 million Brazilians. With just the first dose, the country reaches the rate of 73.28%.
São Paulo is today the leader in vaccination throughout the Brazilian territory, both in percentage of the vaccinated population and in people with at least one dose of immunizing agents.
After São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul is the state with the second highest vaccination coverage, with an index of 65.29%. Next is Rio Grande do Sul, with 62.43%.
Considering only the population of São Paulo over 18 years of age, this rate rises to 90.11%.
A sheet showed that immunization in São Paulo has been as efficient as in rich countries with high vaccination coverage. The state has already surpassed countries like the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States.]
Even so, the coordinator of the State Immunization Program (PEI), Regiane de Paula, warned of the high number of people who took only the first dose and did not return to complete the vaccination schedule. São Paulo has 5.4 million people with the second dose overdue.
“We are very concerned about this, because with only one dose the person is still exposed to the virus. It is important that all those missing return for the second dose”, he said.
“The result of this collective effort for vaccination was a 90% drop in deaths by Covid between April and November 2021 and a 10-fold reduction in the number of hospitalized. We went from more than 31,000 hospitalized in April to less than 3,000 this year November 10, 2021,” said Doria.
The increase in vaccination coverage has been accompanied by a fall in pandemic indicators. In this second (8), for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the state of São Paulo did not register any deaths due to coronaviruses.
The data can still be revised, since on weekends the notifications of deaths tend to be dammed: municipalities register deaths in the Sivep-Influenza system on Sundays and, therefore, the data are always below the weekly average.
At the height of the pandemic in the state, SP came to record 1,389 deaths in a single day, April 6th.
