It can be hard to motivate kids to do chores, but not if you have a tank.

Originally from Amesbury, Wiltshire, Gary Freeland has found a unique way to help children at a weekly grocery store by taking them around in a flashy military tank.

Three 35-year-old parents, Freddie (13), Phoebe (9) and Harrison, boarded a tank from a young age and joined the army at the age of 16 because their grandfather owned an old military vehicle. ..

Gary spends £20,000 on his car and uses it in his daily life. Passing by the gas station and parking in the supermarket parking lot caught the attention of the locals.

A 400 liter tank would have set Gary back nearly £800 to fill up with petrol at today’s fuel prices.

He states: Parked next to another car. It’s not something you look forward to every day, so when you come home, you get a lot of attention.

“Whenever I go to the supermarket with my kids with a tank every week, I always jokingly ask why I don’t park in the parent-child space.”

There are many other benefits of driving an armored vehicle at the time of assignment.

Gary added, “Tanks are the best way to get kids everywhere. They can’t wait to help me shop when I know I’m in a tank.”

“None of his friends use military tanks, so they think it’s cool.

The good thing about wearing a tank top to the supermarket is that you have plenty of room for your shopping bag and you’ll never get messed up going through a cart.

“And the tank is huge, but there are still people parked on both sides, so it’s very difficult to get out of the parking space.”

Fred, the eldest son, helped Gary out of a jam, and his father said he was a “great tank commander.” The 13-year-old is a big fan of military travel and shows his friends photos and videos of tanks.

“In addition to making deliveries to the store, we go to the gas station and leave,” Gary said.

“I also organized a birthday party for my son. He loved it.”

Gary’s partner isn’t in the tank yet, but he says, “I think it’s crazy, but I find it interesting.” She wants to ship him when he is brave enough.

Gary, who is still in the army, often travels to various military bases to restore the tank used as a guard.

He states: “Driving a tank is actually a very difficult task as it is controlled with a stick instead of a steering wheel. It takes a lot of effort and you need to have your wisdom on you!

Looking at the tanks on the road, people seem to be very surprised, out of focus and drifting. Visibility is pretty good, but someone needs to be upstairs to check the rear of the tank.

The fastest Gary in the tank was 50mph, which is more of a novelty than racing for the family.

“The kids love it and always want to be involved,” he said. “They love to make sure everything works, since I used to help my grandfather.

People think it’s cool when they see a tank, and the shocked look on people’s faces is always a picture.
