(News Bulletin 247) – BAE Systems announces that its test aircraft for its future Italian-British air combat aircraft, the Tempest, should take to the air within four years, thus respecting the program.
Indeed, in the summer of 2022, Ben Wallace, Secretary of State for Defence, announced that a new combat aircraft demonstrator would take to the air in the next 5 years.
BAE says the device has been designed using ‘a range of innovative digital techniques’ and benefits from ‘world-class UK industry expertise’.
Test pilots from BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and the Royal Air Force (RAF) have already flown the aircraft virtually for more than 150 hours in a new bespoke simulator at BAE Systems’ new facility at Warton.
Engineers also carried out aerodynamic tests on the engines, exploiting new advanced manufacturing processes.
BAE finally specifies that the device will consist of fewer moving parts than a traditional fighter jet design, which will improve the stealth of the device.
