(News Bulletin 247) – BAE Systems announces that it has been awarded a $37 million contract by the United States Department of Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC) to design the Next Generation SeaSparrow Missile Launch System (NGELS).

The company will design and supply prototype deck launch systems to support the U.S. Navy and allied nations with the Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) ship self-defense system.

NGELS is a deck-mounted fixed-angle launcher that exploits BAE Systems’ Adaptive Deck Launcher (ADL) concept to store and launch ESSMs from Mk 25 missile cartridges, which are also produced by BAE Systems.

‘NGELS leverages the expertise of our workforce to deliver a ready-to-deploy system that improves mission effectiveness and enables reliable ship defense for the US Navy. We look forward to working with our customers to bring this enhanced capability to the fleet and introduce it to international users,” said Brent Butcher, vice president of weapon systems product line at BAE Systems.
