LONDON (Reuters) – British airline easyJet on Thursday posted strong pre-tax profit of 203 million pounds (234 million euros) in its third fiscal quarter, thanks in part to strong summer demand.
Revenue per seat rose 22% year-on-year, the group said.
The European airline industry is expected to post strong profits this quarter as travel demand continues to drive bookings to levels similar to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
EasyJet also said it expects record pre-tax profit for its fourth quarter, running from July to the end of September, as per-seat costs stabilized as oil prices eased.
Chief executive Johan Lundgren, however, warned of the potential impact of limited airspace availability and traffic control strikes in Europe.
“We are absolutely committed to mitigating the impact of the difficult external environment on our customers and enabling them to take well-deserved vacations,” he said in a statement.
