FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Nestle is targeting stable sales volume growth from the second quarter onwards amid falling cost inflation, its chief executive told the Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Wochenende in an interview published on Saturday.

“From the second quarter and for the rest of the year, we can expect a stable and positive contribution regarding volume growth and product mix,” Markus Schneider was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The manufacturer of the Nespresso, KitKat and Perrier brands reported in April a 5.9% drop in its first quarter sales. Adjusted for currency effects, however, these sales increased by 1.4%. At the time, the Swiss food giant forecast sales growth of 4% in 2024, adjusted for currency effects.

Markus Schneider told the newspaper “Schweiz am Wochenende” that the group was confident about the difficulties linked to cost inflation and falling sales volumes.

“We are now seeing a stabilization of the situation,” he said.
