The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection expressed his condolences to the families of the two dead from the helicopter crash, yesterday, in Samos. Christos Stylianidis.

He noted that the investigation into the causes of the accident will begin immediately so that there is a clear picture of the causes that led to this tragic accident.

In his statement, Mr. Stylianides states: “Yesterday we had another difficult fire, this one in Samos. As every day we have dozens of similar fires that are dealt with thanks to the timely intervention, readiness and self-sacrifice of our Firefighters.

Today, however, is a particularly difficult day for all of us. We mourn two people who fought to control the fire, two real fighters. And I want to sympathize with their families who are going through a very difficult time. Nothing can replace their human. The State will stand by them.

I would also like to express my condolences to the extended family of the Fire Department, because this fight with the flames to save property and the natural environment, has a cost in human lives. And I wish the two crew members who are hospitalized a speedy recovery. We will be by their side in whatever they need.

Air fire crews, like all members of the Fire Service, fight a huge fight every day, a difficult fight, to protect the lives of citizens and their property in adverse conditions, in climate crisis conditions. Yesterday’s accident shows how dangerous, how titanic their work is.

All of them are at the forefront, with self-sacrifice and a strong sense of duty. Their priority is the protection of human life and the lives of our fellow citizens, often putting their own lives at risk. I repeat for the umpteenth time that we are by their side.

I would also like to sincerely thank everyone who assisted in the search and rescue operation. The officers of the Coast Guard, the EKAV rescuers, our Firemen, the volunteers who came with their fishing boats. Their mobilization was immediate and their assistance was catalytic.

The investigation into the causes of the accident will be started immediately by the competent authorities and we await their findings so that we have a clear picture of the causes that led to this tragic accident.

Again, our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the two crew members who were lost so unexpectedly.”
