Side-Compulsory Vaccination: Fines, Exemption Requests and Extension of Measure

by

The full framework for the mandatory vaccination against coronavirus in citizens over 60 years of age was presented by the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris.

By January 16, those over the age of 60 must have scheduled at least the first dose of the vaccine, in order not to be fined 100 euros.

Committees will be set up – as was the case when it was mandatory for health workers – to consider applications that justify health reasons in order not to vaccinate a citizen. There will be up-to-date information on applications for exemption from compulsory vaccination and how they will be dealt with.

If a citizen over 60 is not vaccinated, he will be fined 100 euros for each month. Only if you make the first installment by January 16 will the fine not be imposed.

The provision that was voted in the Parliament even gives the possibility of extending the measure to those who turn 60 years old from January 1, 2022 onwards.

General control of the population with a self test for everyone

The second measure mentioned by the Minister of Health, which does not have mandatory characteristics, is the general control of the population for coronavirus through the distribution of a free self test to all adult citizens.

The first self test will be given in the week from 6 to 11 December. One more will be available the week after the Christmas holidays.

It is recommended during the Christmas period to do additional tests before the events on the holidays.

What will happen to the theme parks

The Minister of Health announced that after the recommendations of the committee for the Christmas theme parks that will open in the previous days, only vaccinated or sick people will enter, while for the minors the procedure will be the same as for their entry indoors.

Disease certificate only by PCR and not by rapid

In the JM that will be issued, according to Mr. Plevris, it will be provided that in order to issue a disease certificate, the rapid test will not be enough but PCR will be needed. When someone is positive with a rapid test they will be quarantined, but a disease certificate will only be issued by PCR.

At the “table” the acceleration of the third installment

The Minister of Health also stated that the government has asked the vaccination committee to shorten the time of administration of the booster dose of the vaccine in order to be done at four and not six months after the second dose.

For the vaccination of children 5 – 11 years old, the platform will be implemented as soon as our country receives the vaccines which are different in terms of their dosage in relation to the general population.
