The prosecutor reportedly points to the risk of adverse reports that could damage the country’s welcoming image.
Complete whitening of the reported incident of violence with the attack on German tourists in Mylopotamos, Crete, but also an investigation of the whole case as an absolute priority, the Supreme Court prosecutor requested by order to the investigator of Rethymno Isidoros Dogiakos.
The specific mandate of the prosecutor is based on article 32 (subsection C) of the new Code of Criminal Procedure, which provides: “…the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, who can also in exceptional cases order the conduct of the interrogation and the introduction of the case to the audience as an absolute priority”.
In particular, Mr. Dogiakos, in his order to the Rethymno investigator, states, according to information, that the investigation into this particular case must be thorough, done thoroughly and all the facts must be ascertained.
The order to carry out the investigative investigation as an absolute priority, is for the offenses of attempted dangerous grievous bodily harm serially racially motivated (felony), dangerous driving likely to cause danger to a person, racially motivated dangerous bodily harm, illegal carrying of a weapon, menacing and simple bodily harm.
Finally, according to information, the prosecutor of the Supreme Court in his relevant order to the investigator of Rethymno, refers to the risk of adverse reports against Greece which may damage the image of the country abroad and also underlines that the case in question, “presents extreme seriousness on the one hand because of the time it allegedly took place, that is in the middle of the tourist season and on the other hand for the place, Crete, which is an island of attraction for tourists from all countries of the world”.
