No migrants were found on an island in Evros after the investigation by the Police forces, as stated by the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos. In particular, he said: “There was a Turkish notam in Captain Andreevo a few hours ago with which our neighbors showed us that there are illegal immigrants on an islet with coordinates that belong to Greek territory, asking us to proceed with a search and rescue operation. The Police carried out a search and rescue operation and found that there are no migrants there.”

Following Turkey’s notification to Captain Andreevo, the Greek Police carried out a search and identification operation for illegal immigrants, who were said to be on an island within Greek territory, in the afternoon today, Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The operation was carried out by a group of 9 executives, including 2 from the Red Cross and one from Frontex, while in the context of the investigations, no irregular migrants were detected on the island in question.
