Thessaloniki: March against the university police

About 1,000 people are currently marching in the center of Thessaloniki.

The demonstrators are protesting the presence of police forces as well as executives of the University Institutions Protection Group inside the campus of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Two arrests after the tension at AUTH

Two people were arrested for the tension that occurred at noon at AUTH, between students and forces of the Hellenic Socialist Party, during a protest against the university police. According to the case file, they are charged with the act of disturbing the peace.

A total of three people had been brought in by the police and on the occasion of this development, members of student associations held a protest rally at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters, on Monastiriou Street. According to EL.AS, the tension was caused when people who participated in the protest threw bottles, eggs and other objects at the police forces on the scene and they responded with the use of chemicals.

Midday hours today, Friday September 16, 2022, and while a gathering-protest of approximately sixty (60) people was in progress in front of the School of Positive Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.P.Th), following the initiative of autonomous schemes and with the participation of student associations , a group of those gathered threw objects at the police forces.

The police forces proceeded to arrest three people, two of whom were arrested and a case file is being filed against them for disturbing the public peace.

The case is handled by the Thessaloniki Security Directorate.
