Special forces of the Police and the Prosecution of Narcotics “lost” a real fortress, which had been set up on the outskirts of the monastery and had been turned into a plant for the cultivation and processing of cannabis from where more than a ton of hashish would fall on the market in a few days.

One of the most chilling findings of the investigations is the fact that the perpetrators seem to have passed as pilgrims and through the monastery to make sure that even though they were at a “breathing” distance from the facilities, the plantation remained unseen.

It is recalled that in the coordinated police operation, which began on Monday, September 19, 2022, in the area of the Heraklion Regional Unit, police officers from the Special Repressive Anti-Terrorist Unit of Crete, the Heraklion Police Operations Department and the Heraklion Crime Prevention and Suppression Team participated.
During the operation, a two-level plantation with a total of 1,152 hemp seedlings was identified in an extremely difficult to access forest area, in the Regional Unit of Heraklion, which were diligently cultivated and were in the growth stage up to two and a half 2.5 meters high, which, after being uprooted, were then confiscated.
Also, near the plantation, a specially designed area used as a drying room was located where 27.5 kilograms of cannabis were found and confiscated.
Investigations by the authorities to identify and arrest the perpetrators are ongoing.
