“We recognize the difficulties of the families and stand by them”, says Kostas Bakoyannis
With the aim of supporting the vulnerable families of Athens who find it difficult or unable to cope with the purchase of school supplies for their children, the Municipality of Athens undertook to cover this basic need, providing school supplies to 2,858 children of the families supported by the programs of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the municipality (K.Y.A.D.A.).
Every day, at the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Center – at the Larissa station – the children who arrive there with their families, receive from the Social Bookshop their school bag, as well as a package with notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, drawing blocks and everything another is necessary for them to attend their lessons at school.
“In the Municipality of Athens, we recognize the difficulties faced by some of our fellow citizens to cope with basic needs, such as the purchase of school supplies for their children. Through K.Y.A.D.A we continue the coordinated efforts to ensure the best possible living conditions for families who are deprived of basic goods on a daily basis. A big “thank you” to all those who contribute in practice to our effort to leave no one alone”, says the Mayor of Athens in his statement. Kostas Bakoyannis.
For her part, the President of K.Y.A.D.A., Melina Daskalaki, points out: “Through the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens, we essentially support citizens in need, without discrimination and without exclusions. Among our actions for the vulnerable, childcare is a key priority and we strive to provide them with even more than the basics. As long as the conditions require it, we will continue to be next to those who need us with the same solidarity and the same respect”.
It is noted that the items distributed come from valuable donations from individuals and companies, as well as through the joint initiative with “Together we can”.
Oral hygiene products for 1,105 children
Along with the distribution of school supplies, a total of 1,105 children, aged 6-12, supported by K.Y.A.D.A. are currently receiving packages of oral hygiene products. The packages were made available by the Colgate company, as part of the “Bright Smiles – Bright Future” program. The KYADA Social Dental Clinic also participates in the action, promoting the appointment for free preventive check-ups for children.
650 free annual memberships for sports activities
Also, the K.Y.A.D.A. utilizing the offer of the sports group “A.O. PEGASOS Kypselis”, offers a total of 650 annual subscriptions for participation in a series of sports activities, such as basketball, handball, chess, swimming and fencing.
