After the last deadly bad weather in Agia Pelagia, all the Services and Technical Means of the Region of Crete have been put on high alert
The weather scene in Crete is changing drastically with the Civil Protection of the Region warning of dangerous weather phenomena. According to the emergency bulletin of dangerous weather phenomena, the arrival of the weather system named “EVA” is predicted with the main characteristics of lightning and heavy rain, which will affect the island from the early hours of Sunday 06-11-2022.
As announced – and after the last deadly bad weather in Agia Pelagia – all the Services and Technical Means of the Region of Crete that make up the civil protection mechanism have been placed in a state of increased readiness, in accordance with the provisions of the operational plan.
In fact, the Civil Protection of the Region appealed to the citizens to be especially careful in areas where severe weather phenomena occur and to faithfully apply the self-protection instructions.
Among them, it recommends that in areas where heavy rainfall, storms or gale-force winds are predicted, citizens should secure objects which, if carried away by the severe weather, may cause damage or injury, make sure that the gutters and gutters of the houses are not blocked and operate normally, avoid crossing rivers and streams, on foot or by vehicle, and avoid outdoor work and activities in marine and coastal areas during severe weather events (risk of lightning strikes).
Also, take immediate protection during a hailstorm, avoid passing under large trees, signs and areas where objects may fall and follow the instructions of the local authorities, such as the Traffic Police.
