The new tourist season in Greece begins with the best omens, as on April 1 and 2, 2023, the first cycling race L’ÉTAPE Greece by Tour de France will be held in Ancient Olympia. The Region of Western Greece and the company EY ZIN Greece joined forces and brought to Greece the legend of the global cycling events.
With Ancient Olympia in the foreground, the Regional Governor of Western Greece Nektarios Farmakis pointed out in a special event that took place in Zappeion, that the whole local community will support the race.
It is typical that L’ÉTAPE Greece by Tour de France is expected to bring at least 2 million euros in revenue to the local economy, while the benefit of promoting the region exceeds 1 million euros, as Mr. Farmakis always emphasizes.
“The land of Olympism is once again united with one of the greatest sporting events. It is a great joy and excitement for the Region of Western Greece that it is co-organizing together with EY ZIN Greece the first L’ÉTAPE Greece by Tour de France and it will be hosted in Ancient Olympia, where the top sports and culture meetings give life and value to timeless values of the modern world and the cycling community.
In April 2023 we are making an appointment in Ancient Olympia to welcome cyclists from all over the world, at the birth of a great cycling event for all of Greece. At the same time, this event is a sports celebration”, notes Mr. Farmakis.
Focusing on the details of the race, the Deputy Regional Governor for Sports, Volunteering and Olympism from the Region of Western Greece, Dimitris Nikolakopoulos, emphasized that on the occasion of the cycling race, there will be parallel events through our co-organization with EY ZIN Greece that will frame both the race itself and families and children.
At this point the managing director of EY ZIN Greece Vasia Birlirakis noted that the EY ZIN Greece team with its experience in organizing major sports events feels very honored not only because L’ÉTAPE Greece by Tour de France will be in the range of events us but because we cooperate with a Region that practically proves its support for such initiatives.

The Tour de France is the biggest cycling race in the world and one of the most famous sporting spectacles. Every year it is watched with passion by sports fans from all over the world. Due to the popularity of the race, L’Étape by Tour de France was created to give amateur cyclists the opportunity to experience the thrill of the cycling event, on a smaller scale. Over time, the series has expanded to 22 international destinations, and of course Greece could not be missing.
