by

The measures will be developed gradually from December 23, 2022 to January 8, 2023, while they will peak on the days of mass entry and exit of vehicles

From today Friday, 23/12, the emergency measures on the National Roads for the departure of the Christmas, New Year and Epiphany excursions are put into effect by the Traffic Police.

The measures will be gradually developed from December 23, 2022 to January 8, 2023, while they will peak on the days of mass exit and entry of vehicles, to and from the major urban centers.

The design of the measures includes:

– Policing the road network by sector, based on the particular traffic conditions of each region.

– Increased police presence and targeted policing at the points of the road network, where there is a frequency of traffic accidents.

– Increased traffic measures at the entrances and exits of large urban centers, where a lot of vehicle traffic is observed.

– Regulation of traffic with pedestrian traffic wardens, at key intersections, to avoid traffic congestion.

– Establishment of general and special traffic control teams, focusing attention on the verification of dangerous violations (excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal overtaking, etc.), as well as violations that, based on statistical data, are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents (use of mobile phones while driving).

– Increased traffic measures in places where there is a mass concentration of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.).

– Local traffic regulations, in which festive events will take place.

– Presence of traffic wardens at the Toll Stations of the Country to facilitate traffic, inform and advise drivers and passengers.

– Informing the citizens through the communication services, in any case where it becomes necessary to inform the public widely about the existence of any traffic and other problems.

At the same time, special importance will be given to the preventive and deterrent presence, through the implementation of traffic controls and drunkenness tests (alcohol tests) in order to deal with “dangerous” violations, which are the main causes, mainly of fatal traffic accidents.

It is pointed out that throughout the implementation of the measures, both the personnel and the means of the Hellenic Police, mainly of the Traffic Police Services, will be on increased operational readiness. Specifically, patrol cars, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be made available, with the corresponding personnel and equipment for the effective policing of the country’s road network.

ELAS appeals to drivers:

– to be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network,

– be especially careful when driving,

– faithfully follow the provisions of the Road Traffic Code,

– drive at low speeds to better control their vehicle,

– in any case to comply with the instructions of the traffic police

A traffic ban will apply to all motor lorries with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes as follows:
