He was found by his friend, unconscious, in his ravine Olympus climber who had been reported missing.
According to the information that reached the Greek Rescue Team (EOD) Thessaloniki the two climbers were at the base of Lukiou in Mytika at 2,700 meters high. One of the two continued to the top and another said he would wait for him at the same point to turn around. However, when the first one from the top returned, he did not find his friend and after looking for him in the surrounding area and at the “Apostolidis” shelter, he sent a signal that he was missing.
The competent services were immediately mobilized, while the climber, under the instructions of the EOD of Thessaloniki, began investigations towards a specific point, where accidents have occurred. After a long descent in a difficult area with frozen snow, he managed to find his friend unconscious and notified the authorities.
In a post, the Greek Rescue Team of Thessaloniki states: “At 1:40 p.m. the EOD received an emergency call via radio from a mountaineer who reported that his friend was missing at the Zonaria location at the base of Loukiou Mytikas. We immediately informed the Fire Service, while the climber started the search for his friend. During the investigation, he first located his ax and then himself, but without being able to get close to him, as the spot is very steep.”
