The start of an individual business through gov.gr “in 5 minutes” was announced by the Minister of Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis

The launch of an individual business through gov.gr was announced by the Minister of Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, in his speech during the presentation of the operation of the “National Administrative Procedures Policy”.

As the minister noted, “thousands of businesses are established every day, last year 50,000 individual businesses were established. It required more than 5 visits, you had to go to a series of counters to be able to get certain certificates. These five visits now take 5 minutes and the visit is now digital via gov.gr. It’s still a big change.”

Referring to “MITO”, he emphasized that currently 2,500 procedures have been registered, while in a few months they will reach approximately 5,000, and reiterated that the Ministry of Digital Governance started with the registration of 501 services on gov.gr, while today they have reached over 1,500 . “Last year we recorded 1.2 billion digital transactions. From 8.8 million in 2018″, he added and pointed out that “things we did not think would happen in our country have happened”.

Mr. Pierrakakis he spoke of “a multitude of administrative procedures that existed, a policy of redundancy but also the realization in the past that the state did not put the citizen at the center of its interest” and added: “One finds that life events were not basically planned with a politico-centric logic, basically they were not even planned, they were by-products of the priorities of the respective state structures-state functionaries”. “It’s been a huge chunk of change.

At the end of the next 4 years the goal is simple, clear and stated with some minimal exceptions, all our interactions with the State will be digital if we wish. This was the initial vision and the initial conception of this policy, this will also be its implementation in a very few years as it has been launched”, he underlined.

The Minister of State spoke about a very important day, George Gerapetritiswho noted that “in a democracy, in a rule of law, what counts is a very standardized existence, which goes on and on, depersonalized.”

Referring to the staff state, he emphasized:

“It was nothing different from capturing, recording, clearing all government procedures. The integration into one text of all procedures for the operation of government. Everything that happened at the government level is transferred to the administration level. From the staff state to the staff administration. Because no matter how good the administration is, it cannot work if the procedures are not recorded, clear, transparent, accessible.”

As Mr. Gerapetritis pointed out “no other European state has this specific digital manual to this extent, which facilitates the citizens and for this reason we should all feel proud”.

As, in fact, the Minister of State emphasized, now “it is not the citizen who bears the burden of proving which procedure he must follow, but the administration itself. With one click, the citizen can easily, accessible, functionally know what the procedure is to follow”. In fact, he said that “for the first time, they will have inter-ministerial branches of civil servants who will respond to the current challenges, that is, digital analysts, public policy analysts and legal experts”.

“We will continue to work until the last day of this administration to make the lives of the citizens easier”, concluded Mr Gerapetritis.

The Minister of Development and Investments spoke of a real expression of a previous political decision, political thinking and planning, Adonis Georgiades regarding the projects presented today. He also spoke about the establishment of the individual business in a few minutes with one step, as “today you can establish your individual business from your mobile phone through gov.gr and start your business activity as quickly as you can to contribute and you in the growth of the GDP, in the fall of unemployment, in the well-being of the Greek people in your own way and to realize your own dreams”. As he noted, “all that has been done has changed the business environment in our country, if we would not have had a triple record in 2022, if we had not done these, Greece would not have had a record of Foreign Direct Investments for the second consecutive year, we would not have export record where in 11 months we passed 50 billion, i.e. 23% of GDP and record tourist receipts of all times. This triple record echoes in real results the transformation of the country.”

Mr. Georgiadis spoke of the excellent, efficient and pleasant collaboration he had with Mr. Pierrakakis. “Obviously, our time called for the digital transition of the country and the subject who implemented this transition was Kyriakos Pierrakakis, he gave us the technical capabilities, the ideas that the various ministers had to turn them into actions for the benefit of the Greek people. Of course covid also helped and seized the opportunity and changed the Greek state. We are already far ahead of most European countries”, he stressed. In fact, he added that “gov.gr with over 1,500 services has implemented 100% of the obvious procedures that can be included in it. Now with “MITO” we are going to the next, more complex, deeper processes, which if completed, the change will be even more shocking for our lives”.

Finally, the commander of AADE, George Pitsilis, pointed out that it is important to change the procedures, to make them more qualitative, citizen-centric. “At the Independent Inland Revenue Authority over 1,000 people work every day to simplify, digitize, standardize services such as tax refund automation, over €6 billion were given in refunds in 2022.” As Mr. Pitsilis characteristically said, “many things that could not be done in the past have now been done”.
