It is designed to look like a sanctuary in nature despite being in Dubai
Drawing on its extensive experience in hotel design, international architecture firm OBMI has explored a new type of vertical luxury resort, which it has named ‘Aera’. OBMI’s innovation lab captured the concept of a resort in the heart of an urban environment, bringing the ‘Bare Toes in the Sand – Waves Crashing on the Beach’ vibe closer to home.
Innovators at OBMI note that the Aera Vertical Resort model, in Dubai, is a “first” for cities. Designed to take the form of a nature retreat, dropped into an urban center, its organization as a stack reduces the footprint of the typical resort that interrupts an unspoiled natural environment. In this way, visitors are offered an atmosphere of well-being and access to a wild oasis without being required to make a long journey.
The model is organized into seven areas which include dining, art, fashion, theater, garden, wellness and family. A panoramic platform opens onto the city and hosts a pool that looks out onto the streets below. “Functioning as an escape within the city, the walking paths, with their green side, do allow a sense of escape from the stresses and challenges of the metropolis,” emphasize the architects.
