Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey will become the Japanese brand’s first plant in Europe to produce plug-in hybrid vehicles and batteries.

As the company announced, this plant will manufacture the second generation of the Toyota C-HR, which will be available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The new Toyota C-HR will also be the first plug-in hybrid passenger car to be produced in Turkey.

Alongside the vehicle production line, a new plug-in battery assembly line will be built at this plant, with a productivity of 75,000 units per year. The assembly of plug-in hybrid batteries will start in December 2023, creating around 60 new jobs, the official announcement said.

The establishment of the battery assembly line in is a strategic milestone in Toyota’s electrification transformation and will also support other Toyota plants in Europe in the future with manpower and know-how.

The total investment for this project will be approximately €317 million, bringing the total investment in the plant to approximately €2.3 billion. As part of the investment, the production line will be improved to meet future production diversity and flexibility requirements – a key factor in Toyota Europe’s business sustainability strategy.

Toyota is committed to achieving full carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and aims for carbon neutrality in all of its production facilities by 2030.
