On March 13, 2023, after adjournments, two citizens, residents of Rhodes and Chania, will sit in the dock of the Joint Jury Court of Kos accused of rape, committed by two or more perpetrators acting together (gang rape).
The investigation into the case began in response to a request for judicial assistance from its authorities Norway for gang rape of a Norwegian tourist in Rhodes.
According to the complaint, the two citizens jointly and successively raped the tourist in a residence in Rhodes on July 30, 2017 and were particularly violent.
The alleged victim, the mother of a minor child, had come on holiday to the island with her friends and before this incident had been in contact with two more people with her consent, without precautions.
The victim claims that the two nationals, she was beaten, spat on and forced into vaginal, oral and anal intercourse and even repeatedly to a residence on the outskirts of Rhodes town, where she was driven by one of them, whom she met as a member of a band in a night club.
The alleged victim recognized the two complainants from photos posted on the nightclub’s Facebook page, which led Norwegian authorities to identify them.
More specifically, the victim presented herself on August 4, 2017 to the Oslo police authorities, accompanied by her lawyer, and gave a statement with audio and video. Then he also filed a lawsuit. As she stated, on July 30, 2017 she and a friend visited a well-known center in the city of Rhodes and there she was approached by a worker with whom she flirted. In the early hours of the same day and while the store was almost empty, she followed him for a ride in his car.
On the way, in an unknown direction, this countryman, as she claimed, forced her to perform oral sex and then drove her to a residence, in an unknown location. Another citizen went there, whom he had seen talking to the first in the same center.
As she claims, they raped her successively and together with particular cruelty. The other countryman, after they finished, drove her in his car to the night club.
She went to a fast food restaurant and then to her hotel in shock. With her friend, as she said, they went to a police station to denounce the incident and as he claims was not dealt with properly. The accused were released unconditionally after their confession.
Apologizing, one emphasized that he worked at the nightclub as a waiter in the year 2017. He and his co-accused worked together during the period of 2017 without ever getting to know each other well, as the center employs a total of over 30 people and they did not, he said, have any close contact the relationship.
He added that the fact that the “raped” woman testified that after the “passions” she then went to dinner, slept and after consulting with her friends, decided to go to Rhodes Police at noon shortly before leaving for her home country , while in the end she did not want to file a complaint as she was not sure if the intercourse took place with her consent or not.
She emphasized that the only reason she changed her mind and finally reported to the Norwegian authorities that she was raped in Greece, is the expected financial benefit.
His co-accused emphasized that he has been working at the same center since 2012 and that his personal relationships and contacts are generally limited due to the two small children he and his wife are raising.
He also confirmed that he had no relationship with his co-accused, while adding that he does not remember the complainant and that he cannot understand why she is accusing him, at the time that he did not even know his name, but found his details from his page shop on facebook.
He added that besides the fact that his wife wakes up early in the morning and waits for him, it would be impossible for him to leave the store before 6 a.m. in late July. as the music program continues until that time.
