The amendment for the Bloc in the Kasidiari party passed with ND and PASOK votes – SYRIZA remained “present”

SYRIZA was positioned as “present” while KKE, Hellenic Solution and Mera 25 voted against the amendment.

With the positive vote of ND and PASOK – KINAL, the amendment of the Ministry of the Interior, as amended, on the “Right to form a combination in the parliamentary elections” was voted in the plenary session of the Parliament.

SYRIZA was positioned as “present” while KKE, Hellenic Solution and Mera 25 voted against the amendment.

The “present” of SYRIZA and the response of Voridis and Oikonomou

Speaking from the floor of the Parliament, the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, accused the government, noting that “what bothers you is not the possible presence but your petty party calculations. You think that by blocking and at the same time turning to the far right you will win over voters who lean that way.”

“The amendment, instead of leading to the intended result, may strengthen them. It is a constitutionally problematic amendment. What is holding you back from becoming more clear? By insisting you open the way for a panel of judges to decide in blank which combination serves and which does not serve the free operation of the polity. It leaves a window for someone to claim that it’s not just about neo-Nazis, bringing the dangerous theory of two extremes back out the window,” the Leader of the Official Opposition said, among other things.

The Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis responded by stressing that “if we leave the detection of political and ideological motivations of a party, then the back door is opened for the future legislator and for other parties. Therefore you open the risk you say”.

It is recalled that Yannis Economou had stated earlier: “Mr. Tsipras is continuously absent from the major challenges. At this time – when the institutional and historical responsibility imposes a front-line for the radical treatment of criminal organizations that appear as parties – it continues to hide behind pretexts, anecdotal claims and double-edged swords, in order to justify that it is once again an exception.

But those who could not find a room to judge the Golden Dawn, who hinted that “in the Parliament there are no welcome and unwelcome votes” in order to change the electoral law, who apply verbatim the textbook of Trumpism to cause parliamentary and general political arrhythmia, nor can they represent the honorees in the New Democracy, which courageously exposed and brought to the bench the Golden Dawn and practically fights, since its establishment, every manifestation of the extreme right, nor can they think that they will escape without taking a clean position by acting cunningly again . Everyone’s responsibility is measured in their actions, which is why History reserves contempt and criticism for the absent.”

“Yes” from PASOK

PASOK voted “yes” to the amendment tabled by the governing majority for the “block” in the participation of Ilias Kasidiari’s party in the 2023 elections, with Nikos Androulakis – through his statement – explaining the reasons.

The statement of Nikos Androulakis

“PASOK, since its foundation, has been at the vanguard of national reconciliation, but also of the fight against the apologists of Hitlerism.

In 2013, when our Movement organized a communication campaign to demonstrate that Golden Dawn is a criminal organization, and at the same time spoke about the need to protect the democratic state against the phenomenon of neo-Nazism, other political forces “washed away” the organization in question. Either by leaving open the possibility of cooperation with a “serious Golden Dawn”, as typical New Democracy officials said, or by adopting in Parliament the unacceptable doctrine on behalf of SYRIZA officials that “there are no welcome and unwelcome votes”, solely in order to they promote the bills of their liking together with the Chrysaugitians.

It was after my personal letter, in October 2020, to the late president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, that the doors of the European Parliament were permanently closed to the convicted MEP Yannis Lagos, despite the delay shown by the then government.

Unfortunately, though, over the years, some have had second thoughts with an eye on the polls, calculating above all else the political cost. Faithful to the logic “the end justifies the means”. This is also proven by the fact that we managed to legislate at the last minute, just before the elections.

Today, PASOK – Movement for Change continues, true to its traditions, to be at the forefront of the fight for the defense of Democracy and its institutions.

That is why we submitted comments that led to the improvement of an amendment that, as it had initially seen the light of day, presented significant problems.

Following the positive opinion of the Scientific Service of the Parliament regarding its constitutional adequacy, with consistency and a sense of responsibility we support the amendment that protects the Republic against this criminal organization, which committed murders and carried out a series of pogroms against citizens and immigrants”.
