I met today with the leadership of the Police Directorate of Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia. We are strengthening our force here in Thessaloniki with 104 additional policemen in the next period. Night patrols are constantly being reinforced. Already more than 60 are fully staffed in order to deal with the medium and low delinquency that can threaten households here in Thessaloniki.”

As the minister pointed out, 2022 was marked 25% reduction in low and medium crime compared to the period 2015-2019, while he mentioned that the numbers are similar for the entire Region of Central Macedonia. “We are certainly continuing our efforts because we are satisfied when all citizens feel safe,” he stressed.

Mr. Theodorikakos finally asked to strengthen efforts in two areas.

First, in the offices domestic violence in Thessaloniki, where he emphasized that there should be cooperation with the Local Government. Secondly, he asked for the intensity of measures to strengthen the Traffic in the streets to facilitate traffic in Thessaloniki. “It is known that the problem is quite big. Of course, the responsibility for the problem does not lie with the Greek Police. EL.AS makes efforts to address the problem. A series of projects that will take place in the next period will ease the situation, but we want the Police presence on the streets to intensify”, said the Minister of Citizen Protection.

What did the minister say about the case with the mock cohabitations of new border guards

Mr. Theodorikakos, when asked about this, also referred to the case with the virtual cohabitation agreements by the new border guards. Reports said that new border guards have signed virtual cohabitation agreements to secure the points that will ensure they are posted to the Alexandroupolis Police Directorate.

“It is an issue that has just become known to our ministry we intervened because it is unacceptable for some to start their term in the Greek Police with provocative illegalities. The homeland has honored these children and gives them the opportunity to work close to their home because almost all of the border guards are from the Evros area. They too must honor the coat of arms they will wear, keep it in their hearts and minds and stop any transgressive action. We have ordered an investigation, which is already underway. It will certainly have a disciplinary nature, possibly even a criminal one. I know that justice also moves accordingly. They would do well to put an end to these types of illegalities, those who thought that they could deceive the state, the state, but in fact themselves”, stressed the Minister of Citizen Protection.
