ELAS, a gang that grabbed bags from women while they were walking, in various areas of Attica, was dismantled.

On Friday (7/4) in Penteli and Athens, 2 Greeks, 32 and 47 years old, and a 40-year-old foreigner were arrested, as members of a gang that committed robberies and aggravated thefts as accomplices and as a follow-on and – as the case may be – for grievous bodily harm harm, violence against officers, profanity and contravention of the Weapons and Substances Act.

THE THE GREEK POLICE arrived at the identification of the accused, who were located after a police operation in Penteli and Athens, after using information and evidence.

As it emerged from the investigation, the defendants, at least since December 2022, had set up and joined a group that carried out purse snatching from pedestrian women.

In particular, in terms of their mode of action, the accused riding a motorcycle, having covered their facial features by wearing helmets, were moving at low speed near shopping malls, where there was a crowd of people.

They chose exclusively women as their potential victims and after approaching them, when they got close enough the passenger would quickly and forcefully pull their bags and run away.

In some cases due to the excessive violence used by the accused, the victims were dragged and ended up on the ground resulting in their injuries.

After searches of the property and their homes, among other things, they found and confiscated: a REPLICA type pistol and part of a carbine, a 23.3 cm knife, 35.3 grams. cannabis, clothing and helmets they brought during the commission of the criminal acts, a motorcycle, the amount of 140 euros and 7 mobile phones.

From the preliminary investigation so far, 15 cases of robberies and thefts, with the same method of action, have been solved in Neo Psychiko, Maroussi and Petralona.

Those arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney.
