The professor and president of OASP, Efthimios Lekkas, spoke about the obvious risk of landslides due to landslides on the famous Navagio beach in Zakynthos, speaking to ERT on the sidelines of the decision to prohibit access to visitors to undoubtedly one of the most famous beaches in Greece.

The decision was taken with the safety of tourists in mind.

In fact, the ban will be in effect until the end of October.

Severe penalties are also foreseen for those who defy the prohibition measures.

The professor and president of OASP emphasized that the danger is obvious. “We have consecutive landslides. These landslides are part of the natural processes that develop in the shipwreck and with the material of the landslides the most beautiful beach in almost Greece is fed, which actually processes the wave and gives all this pebble and the very transparent waters. We had made an attempt to zone the wreck which we did. They didn’t work because there was no guarding, but big new landslides were in progress,” he noted.

“We are in a process to see how the wreck will be used by professionals and tourists. We are in a fruitful discussion with the residents of Zakynthos as well as with the MPs and the Regional Governor and the relevant ministries. I believe that a very good solution will be found for everyone, so that on the one hand there is no financial burden and impact on the residents of Zakynthos and on the other hand there is also the required safety of tourists. Because you understand that if any accident happens this will be disastrous for a very long time for the whole region” he concluded.
