The construction of Line 4 of the Metro, a project of key importance, will give “breath” to the acute traffic problem, as it will serve approximately 350,000 citizens every day, 53,000 cars will be off the roads and the distance between Galatsi and Goudi will be covered in 17 minutes.

In the following days, “Athina” – TBM starts its underground journey into the bowels of the city from the junction of Mesogeion and Katehaki streets, paving the way to reach the center of the capital (Rizari Park). Its route will initially start from the eastern suburbs, Goudi, Zografou, Kaisariani and then it will meet in the area of Evangelismos with “Niki” – TBM.

The underground journey of “Niki”, which is expected to start in a few months, will start from the Alsos Veikou construction site to Galatsi and then follow the route to Kypseli, Gyzi, Alexandras, Exarchia, and will go to the center. Both the metropontian “Athina” and “Niki” are scheduled to exit the Evangelismos area when they each complete the opening of the 12.8 kilometer tunnel. The construction project has been undertaken by the AVAX-GHELLA-ALSTOM scheme and is scheduled to be completed in 2029.

Giorgos Karagiannis: A new Metro line is being built in Athens after 29 years

“A new Metro line is being built in Athens after 29 years. Line 4 is a project of great importance in a city that struggles daily with the traffic load and it took a lot of persistence and work to bring it to the realm of realization. Approximately 340,000 passengers will use Line 4 daily, of which 125,000 for work purposes. 53,000 vehicles will be removed from the roads, an additional 2,000 trees will be planted “greening” the areas where Line 4 will pass through the Municipality of Athens, while more than 5,000 new jobs will be created for its construction” the deputy minister told APE-MPE of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Karagiannis.

And he added, “This is also a project that uses state-of-the-art technologies, suffice it to say that the first TBM that we named with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, “Athina” is a real factory that with surgical precision and safety proceeds to open tunnels. Now, we can all understand the importance of the project which in its first part has a length of about 13 km and includes 15 new stations in 4 municipalities and a budget of 1.5 billion euros.
