“People were taken by surprise, both in Atalanti and in the surrounding villages, the residents are on the streets,” the deputy governor of Fthiotidas, Ilias Sanidas, told APE-MPE. According to the deputy governor, “police and firemen are already patrolling the villages around Atalanti to see if there are damages and so far no relevant report has been made”, but as he notes “it is quite early, since something like this will be established when the residents return to their homes. Controls continue both in the city of Atalanti and in the villages of Kalapodi and Exarchos, but also more widely.” According to residents of the village of Exarchos, “some roofs fell in some old houses, but we still don’t have a final picture”.

It is noted that after earthquake of magnitude 4.8 Richter, which occurred at 15:33 with an epicenter very close to the village of Exarchos in the Atalanti area, already so far there have been 8 other aftershocks from 2 to 2.9 Richter, which keep the residents of the area in the squares and roads.
