The rare species of ladybird spider, scientifically Eresus Cinnaberinus, made its appearance in Avdira, Xanthi. The spider is called a “ladybug” thanks to the bright red color that characterizes its body in combination with the black spots, which is quite reminiscent of the well-known ladybug.

The camera spotted the rare spider in Avdira, while the resident of the area who killed it, showing due care, made sure not to injure it in order for it to survive and perpetuate itself.

This is a rare species of spider, listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species as “endangered”.

As a species, they are known for their ability to make silk domes and tubes which they decorate with the remains of eaten beetles and ants, just as humans put the heads of animals they have killed on walls as trophies. The mother spider-ladybug dies after hatching her eggs so that her young can feed on her body.
