In 2016, Sushil Reddy launched the SunPedal Ride project; the idea aimed to spark discussions on “clean” energy and sustainable mobility through zero-carbon vehicle travel. Currently, Sushil crosses the US from one coast to another with Luis Fourzan, but he travels on a moped that is powered by solar energy.

The two friends began their journey from North Carolina on August 15 and are expected to complete it in Texas by the end of 2021. They started from Winston-Salem, headed east to Raleigh, climbed Richmond, captured New York and then headed west to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle on the west coast and descended to San Diego. They will then head east again to Texas.

Sushil, who holds the record for the longest moped trip, travels on an all-terrain bicycle to transport an engine fitted with an engine. On the back of the bike are placed two photovoltaic panels, which on sunny days allow it to travel 56 to 64 kilometers from the approximately 112 kilometers that usually travel in a day. When it’s cloudy, the benefits are less, and on rainy days the panels just add weight to his bike, Sushil admits. For his part, Luis travels on a regular moped and in this way the two of them have the opportunity to analyze the difference with the solar panels.

“There is an urgent need to tackle climate change by moving to a sustainable lifestyle, and the SunPedal Ride project is an effort to inspire people to change their personal lifestyles and adopt a more sustainable one,” Sushil said. Reddy.
