Dislocated spiral the members of which they systematically committed thefts from residences-villas at Mykonos. The burglars were watching the movements of the occupants of the houses which they were targeting and when they found that they were missing, then they ransacked the housesseizing whatever valuable they could find, while they had a particular preference for safes. Their turnover is estimated to exceed 455.00 euros, while a 27 year old who was arrested on his own accord resisted the police during the arrest.

As it was ascertained it is about 6-member criminal group-spiralof which on Saturday (June 24, 2023) he was arrested on his own accord after a coordinated police operation organized by the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate, a 27-year-old foreigner, while the details of the two leading members (a 41-year-old foreigner and a 27-year-old Greek) were identified.

It is noted that, the 27-year-old assailant was located by the police and arrested at the moment he was leaving a residential complex where he had committed a theft, together with two of his accomplices, having in his possession a portable safe, while he resisted when the police tried to arrest him.

At their expense a criminal case file of a felony nature was filed which includes the offenses of forming – participating in a criminal organization, committing distinguished thefts as well as violence against judicial officials.

How did they act?

In particular, in the context of investigating relevant complaints, analysis, processing and combined utilization of data collected during the police investigation, the course of action was determined (modus operandi) and their criminal organization was profiled.

As it emerged from the study of the case, at least since the end of May the two leading members had formed a criminal organization with the participation of the remaining perpetrators and structured spiral characteristics, having a luxurious residence as their base, they acted purposefully with distinct roles and committed thefts– burglaries in residences – villas on the island, as a rule, when their owners or tenants were temporarily absent.

The perpetrators removed money and valuables of great value, as well as small safes (safe boxes) with their contents.

Their turnover is over 455 thousand euros

From the deconstruction of their criminal activity 14 cases of theft were detectedwhile the value of objects and money which removed it is estimated that exceeds 455,000 euros.

What was found in the investigations?

It was found in the residence where the perpetrators lived and in a vehicle they were using a significant number of items, which were seized and gradually identified as stolen goods. Also, burglary tools, tools for evaluating gold objects, and an I.X.E. car.

The arrested person was taken to the Syros First Instance Prosecutor’s Officewhile the case investigation continues in order to to clarify any criminal activity and other time periods.

Special police actions for the policing of tourist areas

It is noted that, in the framework of operational planning of the General Regional Police Directorate of the South Aegean, have been implemented from the Cyclades, A’ & B’ Dodecanese Police Departments special police actions for the policing of tourist areas.

These actions are ongoing and the package of measures implemented includes the full operational utilization of all police units and the implementation of systematic and as the case may be, specialized controls, with the aim of:

  • the prevention of delinquent behavior and petty crime
  • the systematic policing of tourist areas for
  • the increased operational response to emergencies
  • ensuring a stable and safe environment for citizens and visitors to our islands throughout the current summer season
