Most were treated immediately, at their initial stage.

The local investigative offices, as well as units of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

It is recalled that, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, for tomorrow, Saturday, July 15, 2023, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:

  • Region of Attica
  • Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
  • Peloponnese Region (Corinthia Region, Argolis Region)
  • South Aegean Region (Rhodes Region)
  • North Aegean Region (Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
  • as well as a high risk of fire (risk category 3) for many areas of our country.

Also, according to the updated Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEKF) issued today Friday, July 14, 2023 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), it is pointed out that from Sunday (16-07-2023) until the middle of next week the areas that will be affected by high temperatures will be limited in geographical extent and the intensity of the heat will be reduced. At the same time, a temperature drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is predicted, mainly in the east and the north. However, the annual wind (meltemi) will reach 6 to 7 Beaufort, which means that there is an increased risk of fire.

Towards the end of next week there is a tendency for the temperature to rise again, a phenomenon which is being monitored and its evolution will be better evaluated in the coming days.

The fire department appeals to all citizens to be especially careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
